DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER
Jaroslaw Gowin has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Higher Education in October 2017. As a student, he was an active member of the Independent Students' Association and the ‘Solidarity’ trade union. In recognition of his academic successes, he was awarded the University of Cambridge scholarship. Prior to becoming a Deputy Prime Minister, Gowin served in the Polish Senate (2005 – 2011) as a member of the Science and Education Committee, Local Government and Public Administration Committee and Extraordinary Committee of the Bioethical Convention. Outside of the ministry, Jarosław Gowin founded and led the Tischner European University in Kraków and became a patron of many charities, including the St Nicholas Foundation and the Józef Tischner Children’s Hospice in Kraków. An ardent reader and mountain walker, Jarosław Gowin enjoys spending his leisure time with his family and listening to Baroque music.
